Acupuncture - Not Just for Pain.

September 11th, 2008 · No Comments

Many people are aware of the uses of acupuncture as a successful treatment for acute and chronic pain.  For many, their first experience with acupuncture is part of a pain management program. Most do not know that acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can successfully treat many conditions including; asthma, allergies, gastrointestinal problems, male and female health issues and more. The National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization    have studied the use of acupuncture in the treatment of numerous health concerns and have published their findings as an extensive list of conditions that benefit from acupuncture treatments.

Traditional Chinese medicine is a complete medical system dating back some three to five thousand years. The classic texts of Chinese medicine like the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of  Internal Medicine , which was complied over twenty five hundred years ago, completely describe the theories of the practice of Chinese medicine. These texts remain the prime study and reference material of all modern (TCM) practitioners.

Chinese medicine is also one of the oldest medical systems in continuous uses since its inception.   It benefits from a philosophy that sees the body as a series of systems that homogeneously work together. It is based on the balanced flow of energy (qi) through these systems, in harmony with one’s environment, making the body whole. Any imbalances in this energy over time results in symptoms of dis-ease and disease. Chinese medicine seeks to treat these imbalances when they are small. In this manner, small interventions can interrupt what later can become a major health concern. These corrections are made with acupuncture and herbal medicines and also by suggesting lifestyle changes (including diet, work, exercise, etc.).

A simple health consultation with your acupuncture can start you on the road to better health and well-being. It’s not just for pain anymore.
