Community Based Acupuncture comes to Downtown Yonkers
Starting Nov 15th The REN DAO Wellness Center will officially bring community-based acupuncture to Downtown Yonkers. Acupuncture patients can elect to take part in a sliding scale fee schedule which will allow them to get the services they want and enough treatments to get well. Patients will schedule their appointment and receive treatment in a group setting with up to three other persons.

The average visit time will be 45 minutes to an hour. Patients will receive individual treatment, with up to 30 minutes needle retention time. The primary areas of treatment will be the arms (shoulder to hands), legs (knees to feet), ears and head. Patients are expected to wear clothes that allow easy access to these areas.

This is not a free clinic service. Each patient is asked to bring a commitment to their personal healing and to share in the spirit and growth of this community oriented wellness center. Monetary payment is asked in exchange for the services provided. The intention is to make acupuncture and holistic health accessible and allow each patient to focus on their health.

Ren Dao Wellness Center - Bushikai of New York Intra-Dojo Training.
The REN DAO Wellness Center host a number of Martial Arts Training groups; San Yama Bushi Ryu under Shihan Michael Kelly, KyoRei Buninkan Dojo under Shidoshi Warren Young and Ji Chung Do Kan Hapki under Soke William Mallory. All three instructors hold training classes at the center.
Warren Young and Mike Kelly met years ago while working together at Loral Electronic Systems (999 Central Park Avenue and Ridge Hill, Yonkers NY) back in the early 80's and 90's. Shortly after their meeting Warren introduced Mike to Nisei Goju Karate and Soke (Sensei) Fitzpatrick of the New Rochelle Karate Institute. Over the years, Warren and Mike retained close ties to their Karate instructor. After the opening of the RDWC, Sensei Fitzpatrick suggested forming the 'Bushikai of New York' training alliance. This alliance allows members of each school and dojo to visit the other schools and train. Soke Mallory is the newest instructor to join the RDWC. He has been teaching and training in Korean and Japanese martial art for many years and has taught in the Yonkers area since 1986.

Sunday, November 19th, the RDWC will hold an Intra-Dojo group workout. This training session is open to all members training at the RDWC, San Yama Bushi Ryu Dojos, members of the Nisei Goju-Jitsu Dojos and members of Bushikai of N.Y. Instructors of each school will be sharing their knowledge and experience. It will be a great experience for everyone to see techniques from outside there particular school and to train with people from different styles. It is hoped that this will be the first of many intra-dojo training sessions at the RDWC. Hopefully these intra-dojo training session will progress to include the other martial arts schools and dojo training within the Yonkers and lower Westchester, Bronx areas.

LATEST NEWS

This is the first newsletter to be released in a few months. A number of newsletters were written prior to this. They currently lay in various stages of completion on my computer. I hope someday to clean them up and add them to the website newsletter archive. It's amazing, the first newsletters came out a year ago. They are full of seasonal information and are worth reading again.

Back to China
In September, about twenty fellow qigong practitioners and myself traveled to China for a month to further our studies in Emei Linji Qigong. We stayed in Baoguo Temple Emei Mountain (about two hours drive from Chengdu in Sichuan Province) and attended lectures and training conducted by our Qigong instructor Grandmaster Fu Wei Zhong. We covered an immense amount of material, much of which will take some time to assimilate.

More on this trip to come as well as information on the April 2007 Level I Qigong seminar I will help host in New York.
Pictures will be posted on the web site shortly as well as pictures from my previous trips to China and Emei Mountain.
Many thanks to Carol for keeping the doors open and lights on in my absence.
